Sam Galbraith

Sam Galbraith, (* in Clitheroe, Lancashire ) is a Scottish politician of English descent and a member of the Labour Party. He studied at Glasgow University and then worked as a neurosurgeon.

House of Commons

For the first time Galbraith joined the British general election, 1987 to national elections. He won the direct mandate of his constituency Strathkelvin and Bearsden and moved into the British House of Commons. Between 1988 and 1992 he was Parteisprcher for Scotland and health. At the general election in 1992 and 1997 Galbraith defended his mandate. Under the following general election in 2001, Galbraith did not occur to. The mandate of the constituency went to his party colleague John Lyons.

Scottish Parliament

In the first Scottish Parliament elections in 1999, Galbraith ran for the direct mandate of the constituency Strathkelvin and Bearsden. He won the election with a clear lead over the SNP candidate Fiona McLeod. Following the election, he was appointed Minister for Children and Education; in November 2000, then Secretary of State for Environment, Sport and Culture. In May 2001, Galbraith was for health reasons its mandate for the Scottish Parliament. The overdue elections in the constituency Strathkelvin and Bearsden won Galbraith's party colleague Brian Fitzpatrick. Because in June the same year anyway queuing general election, Galbraith retained his House office until the end of the legislature.
