Sam Mendes

Samuel Alexander " Sam" Mendes, CBE ( born August 1, 1965 in Reading, England ) is a British film director and Oscar winner.

Life

Sam Mendes is the son of writer and lecturer James Peter Mendes and writer Valerie Helene Mendes. After the divorce of his parents (1970 ) he made in his Oxford degree and at Cambridge University in 1987 Bachelor in English.

After a successful career in the theater brought him Steven Spielberg in the United States. There he turned with American Beauty his first feature film. This received several Academy Awards, including one for Mendes ' direction. His next film was Road to Perdition. Meanwhile, Mendes retired from the film business and turned back to the theater. In 2005 his film Jarhead appeared - Welcome in the mud, 2008, the drama Revolutionary Road with Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead roles. The film adaptation of a novel by Richard Yates brought Mendes 2009, his second Golden Globe nomination. On 3 May 2009 Sam Mendes was the first time a theater work in Germany. His production of Anton Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard was seen at the Ruhr Festival Recklinghausen. The main roles were played by Rebecca Hall and Ethan Hawke. Mendes led the 23rd James Bond movie Skyfall Director and will also direct the next Bond film, and the 25th film in the series.

Mendes was married to actress Kate Winslet. In March 2010, the couple announced their separation. Mendes and Winslet have a son who was born in 2003.
