Sam Mitchell (basketball)

Samuel E. Mitchell Jr. ( born September 2, 1963 in Columbus, Georgia) is an American basketball coach and former player. He was most recently the head coach at the Toronto Raptors in the U.S. professional league NBA (2004-2008). Between 1990 and 2002 he was himself as a player for the Minnesota Timberwolves (1990-1992, 1996-2002) and Indiana Pacers (1993-1995) active.

Under Mitchell's leadership, the Raptors won in the 2006/07 season their first division title of the Atlantic Division. After the regular season, he was awarded the NBA Coach of the Year Award.
