Sam Torrance

Sam Torrance, OBE ( born August 24, 1953 in Largs, Scotland) is a Scottish professional golfer. He was one of the leading players on the European Tour from the mid-70s until the late 1990s and 2002, the captain (non -playing captain ) of the victorious European Ryder Cup team.

Career

Torrance was already with 16 years of professional golfers and started with 17 at the European Tour. His first professional tournament win came in 1972, that as part of the European Tour was 1976. Overall, he won 21 times on the tour, only his compatriot Colin Montgomerie may have more. The long-awaited major victory remained Torrance but fails.

In 2003 he became eligible to play on the European Seniors Tour and won his first tournament there in 2004. In the following years he was already at the top of the money list Seniors Tour 's Order of Merit. But he still plays occasionally on the European Tour and was there in July 2006 at the Barclays Scottish Open at Loch Lomond his 700th appearance.

Eight times Torrance was represented in the European Ryder Cup team in 1985 he sank the game-winning putt for the first profit after 28 years of U.S. dominance. 17 years later we chose him to captain (non -playing captain ) and led the team Torrance Europe in 2002 at The Belfry again to victory.
