Samanala Dam

The Samanala Dam is by the Mahaweli Dam is the second largest dam in Sri Lanka. It is located 160 km southeast of the capital Colombo and is used to generate electricity. Another Dam ( Uda Walawe ) is below the river Walawe.

In the journal World Rivers Review ( IV/1992 ) is reported from a case of damage during impounding of the dam in 1992. The dam was leaking and had to be repaired consuming.
