Samar Yazbek

Samar Yazbek ( born August 18, 1970 in Dschabla ) is a Syrian journalist and author.

Life

Yazbek comes from a middle class family alawitschen. She studied literature. She published novels and short stories and is a contributing writer and scripts for television, for which it also works as a presenter. She was editor of the online magazine "Women of Syria " ( ar). Yazbar the Arab young writers group Beirut was named 39 for the list.

Yazbek is involved as a journalist for civil rights and women's rights in Syria. At the outbreak of civil war in Syria 2011, she wrote reports and recorded statements. After she was massively intimidated by the Syrian secret service, she had to flee to France in June 2011 with her daughter.

In 2012 she was awarded the British PEN / Pinter Prize International writer of courage and the Tucholsky Prize in Sweden.
