Samarinovac (Negotin)

Samarinovac (Cyrillic Самариновац ) is a village in the Opština Negotin and the District Negotin and thus in eastern Serbia.

Geography

The village is situated near the right bank of the Danube and thus close to the border with Romania. The village is situated on the old Roman road ( Via Romana ), which connected the Roman forts along the Limes to Thrace and Dacia.

History and name

The village was founded during the Middle Ages. In the 16th century there were, according to Turkish records, three villages on the present site of Samarinovac: Gornji Sumarinovac, Donji Sumarinovac and Rabdin. From these three villages then the village Samarinovac .. 1936 was inaugurated the Orthodox Holy Trinity Church in Samarinovac.

Population

The 2002 census (self- nomination) showed that 464 people live in Samarinovac.
