Samarium (III ) fluoride ( SmF3 ) is a salt of the rare earth metal samarium.
Production and representation
Samarium (III ) fluoride can be obtained by reaction of samarium ( III) oxide with hydrogen fluoride.
Properties
At room temperature takes samarium (III ) fluoride YF3 the orthorhombic β - structure (space group Pnma ) - with the lattice constants of a = 666.9 pm, b = 705.9 and c = 440.5 pm pm. Above 495 ° C it takes the rhombohedral LaF3 structure (space group P3cl ) - with the lattice constants a = 707 pm and c = 724 pm.
