Samarth Ramdas

Ramdas (* 1608 in Jamb, Maharashtra, India, † 1682 in Sajjangad ) is considered one of the greatest saints of Hinduism.

Life

As a child, he acquired knowledge of the Hindu scriptures and developed a liking for meditation and religious writings. Samartha Ramdas ' real name was " Narayan ". At seven, he went through his father's sudden death. The family had a house and plow agriculture. When Narayan was twelve years old wanted his family that he should marry according to the former custom, and it was started with the wedding preparations. However, Narayan inclined since childhood to spirituality. Between his bride and the wedding room, there was a partition wall and he ran away and never came back secretly to his family. For twelve years, Ramdas spent on a river in Nasik, got up early, prayed, studied Sanskrit and wrote lyrics and poems. He had to hate the setting, no other religions nor nations. His main concern was the spread of Hindu religion in India. Ramdas observed and studied but also the social, political and economic conditions in India and its inadequacies in daily life.

Twelve years of childhood, twelve years of meditation and spiritual self-study in solitude, after traveling throughout India and out of the holy cities -Sun spent Narayan ( Ramdas ) 36 years of his life and then he reached the bank of the river, "Krishna ". From now called by the people " Samartha Ramdas " ( the powerful devotee of Lord Rama ). Ramdas built over a thousand temples and ashrams all over India. Later Ramdas was very famous and his followers loved him and began his life and his thoughts to follow. Ramdas wrote a total of over 40,000 verses in different volumes.

According to Ramdas

  • The person may also experience earthly joy.
  • He aims to build an inward distance from it and unfulfilled desires are not to imprison him.
  • He should be free from misery and pain, be strengthened internally and always be aware that all time is also impermanent. " What you see with the eyes does not last for ever."

Ramdas often withdrew into seclusion, he was able to meditate better. In his last days he cared mainly about the systematic development of pupils and bases in the north and in the south of India. Ramdas had over 1000 students, men and women. The female students were also excellent preacher and very virtuous. Ramdas sent his disciples all over India to spread the Hindu religion and it is finally Ramadas tireless efforts and patience thanks to them that the Hindu religion in India has established itself. For this reason, the people referred to him as Samartha ( all-powerful ). Ramdas died 1682 in Sajjangad, near Satara, a fortress which he had received from Shivaji (king) as a retirement residence.
