Sambareggae

Samba Reggae is a conglomerate of popular Brazilian samba with Jamaican reggae and is originally and primarily located in the state of Bahia.

Typical of the Samba Reggae is firstly the rhythm pattern of the guitar, which differs from the Jamaican roots reggae. Thus, not only the simple Offbeat is required, but a mix of offbeat and Doubleoffbeat. First versions were based on the " inverted" rhythm of the bossa nova beat of the drummer on the snare drum.

Furthermore, the strong emphasis on the rhythm section is typical, which, if presented exclusively percussive, the following instruments is: the bass drum Surdo, the Brazilian equivalent of the snare drum Caixa, the tenor drums Repinique and occasionally the conical timbas.

Groups such as Olodum or their predecessors Ilê Aiyê practicing Samba Reggae since 20 to 25 years and thus reach an audience of millions in Brazil and the world. International attention was the Samba Reggae latest with Paul Simon's world hit "The Obvious Child" from the CD The Rhythm of the Saints in 1990. The rhythm of Samba Reggae has established itself as a style element of modern Brazilian music and can be heard on many recordings, no longer only from Brazil. For example, the guitar rhythm of the play " Macarena " by Spanish group Los del Río is based on a Samba Reggae.
