Geographical location
Samern lies between Nordhorn and Steinfurt on the border with North Rhine -Westphalia. The community belongs to the Samtgemeinde Schüttorf, which has its headquarters in the city Schüttorf.

The Samerrott is a forest, which is self-administered by the so-called Malbauern since the Middle Ages in the cooperative common property.
