SAMIL Trucks

SAMIL Trucks (South African military) are the standard trucks of the South African army. It was remanufactured types of Magirus -Deutz under license and with various components from domestic production. The conversion was done for the South African Defence Force, partly until 1998 for the South African National Defence Force. The civilian versions of the vehicles were sold under the brands " SAMAG " (South African Magirus ) and " sakom ".

Types

  • SAMIL 20: modified Magirus-Deutz 130M7FAL ( 2x2, 4 -ton, air-cooled engine, variant Mark II with a water-cooled engine of Atlantis Diesel Engine)
  • SAMIL 50: modified Magirus-Deutz 192D12AL (4x4, 5 -ton, air-cooled engine, variant Mark II with a water-cooled engine of Atlantis Diesel Engine)
  • SAMIL 100: modified Magirus-Deutz 320D22AL (6x6, 10 -ton, air-cooled engine )

All types of trucks had a heavy-duty four-wheel drive chassis and thus were well suited for use in rough terrain. An estimated 5,000 of these trucks are still in South Africa, but also in Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Botswana, Malawi, Namibia, Zambia and Tanzania on the go.
