Sammamish is located east of Seattle, right on Lake Sammamish, in King County, Washington, United States. The settlement became in 1999 the statute of a City. In the census of 2000, Sammamish had 34 104 inhabitants.

Geography

The village is located along the shoreline and on the hills east of Lake Sammamish and the city area include additional lakes, of which Beaver Lake and Pine Lake are the largest. North of Sammamish Redmond located adjacent and south of Issaquah.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 47.4 km ², of which 46.7 km ² of land and 0.6 km ² omitted ( = 1.37 %) to water.

History

The plateau is located on the Sammamish, was originally a nichtinkorporierter part of King County. 1991 failed a citizen survey, was the goal of accession to the neighboring city of Issaquah; also took place in the following year, a referendum no majority, which should make Sammamish to self City. Growing frustration with decisions of the County government in terms of urban development finally led to a new edition of the movement that eventually came upon voter approval in 1998. On 31 August 1999 Sammamish was officially incorporated as a city.

Demography

At the time of the census of 2000, there were 34 104 Sammamish people. The population density was 729.5 people per km ². There were 11,599 housing units at an average 248.1 per km ². The population consisted of Sammamishs 87.82 % White, 0.85 % African American, 0.29 % Native American, 7.89% Asian, 0.09 % Pacific Islander, 0.60 % reported other races to belong and 2.46 % from two or more races. 2.50 % of the population to be Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Residents Sammamishs distributed to 11,131 households out of which 53.3 % were living in children under 18 years. 79.5 % married couples living together, 5.3 % had a female householder with no husband present, and 13.3 % were non-families. 9.4% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 1.5% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 3.06 and the average family size is 3.29 people.

The city population was spread out with 33.4 % under the, 4.8 % 18 -24- year-old, 33.2 % 25 -44- year-old, 24.6% 45-64 year olds and 4.0 % under the age of 65 years or more. The average age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 101.7 males. In the over -18s accounted for 100 women 98.5 males.

The median household income in Sammamish was 101 592 U.S. dollars, and the median family income reached the level of 104 356 U.S. dollars. The average income of men was 76 688 U.S. dollars, compared to 47 164 U.S. dollars for women. The per capita income in Sammamish was 42 971 U.S. dollars. 2.0% of the population and 1.6% of families had affected an income below the poverty line, including 1.7 % of minors and 3.2 % of those age 65 or over.
