Sammy Kershaw

Sammy Kershaw ( born February 24, 1958 in Kaplan, Louisiana) is an American country singer.

Sammy is a distant relative of the famous Cajun Fiddlers Doug Kershaw. His musical career was strongly influenced by the prevailing in his native Cajun music, but also by Hank Williams, Buck Owens and George Jones especially.

Sammy began to play with twelve years in clubs and dance halls. As a teenager he became a professional musician. In 1981, he jumped once and for George Jones, who had to cancel a concert due to excessive alcohol consumption. On this occasion he learned that already in the country music scene established Lorrie Morgan, whom he should marry twenty years later. The frequent appearances began to take their toll. Sammy was alcoholic and cocaine addict and was in financial difficulties. For two years, he got out of the music business and worked at the supermarket chain Wal -Mart.

Career

1990 was a demo tape of his way to Nashville. He received from Mercury Records a record deal and published in 1991 his debut album Do not Go Near the Water. The single release Cadillac Style reached a top position in the country charts. More singles made ​​it into the Top 20 The second album, Haunted Heart was successful. In 2001 he married the country singer Lorrie Morgan. It is his fourth marriage. In the same year a joint CD was recorded: I Finally Found Someone. Due to renewed financial difficulties, he went into private bankruptcy in 2007.
