Sammy Korir

Sammy Korir ( born December 12, 1971) is a Kenyan marathon runner.

In 1996 he won the Florence Marathon, 1997 and 1998 the Amsterdam Marathon and the 1999 Turin Marathon. In the Rotterdam Marathon in 1997 and 2001, he finished in third place.

Best known to the public but he was by his performance at the Berlin Marathon in 2003., Where he was to serve as Zugläufer for his countryman and training partner Paul Tergat. However, Korir was able to keep the pace up to the finish and was with just one second distance second behind Tergat, who improved the world record of Khalid Khannouchi by 43 seconds. Thus he was the second fastest runner ever on this route until Haile Gebrselassie improved the record of Tergat at the Berlin Marathon in 2007.

In 2004 he was second in the London Marathon and third at the Fukuoka Marathon.

In 2006, Korir held with his reached the Rotterdam marathon time of 2:06:38 the Weltjahresbestleistung until it was surpassed by Haile Gebrselassie at the Berlin Marathon, where Korir had to give up after a muscle injury.

In 2008 he volunteered as third of the Dubai Marathon in 2:08:01 back.
