Sammy Lee (diver)

Samuel " Sammy" Lee ( born August 1, 1920 in Fresno, California ) is a former American diver who was twice Olympic champion in platform diving.

As Korean parents in California grew, Samuel Lee in 1938, was the first diver who showed the two and a half times the backflip. 1942 Lee was the first time U.S. champion. In the next few years, Lee devoted his medical studies at the University of Southern California. After receiving his doctorate Lee was a military surgeon in the U.S. Army.

In 1946 he ran again and was re- performance sports U.S. champion, which he also achieved in 1947. In the 1948 Olympics he finished third in the art jumping and won the competition from the tower before Bruce Harlan, who had won the springboard diving gold. Four years later, at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, Samuel Lee was the first diver who could repeat his Olympic victory from the tower.

After his career, the ear-nose- throat doctor remained connected to the sport. He was taken up over the years judges at the water jump, so at the Olympic Games in 1956, 1964 and 1968. In 1968 he was in the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport. As a coach, he worked on Robert Webster and Greg Louganis, which he had discovered in 1971.
