Samoreau

Samoreau is a municipality with 2328 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Seine- et- Marne in the Île- de -France region of France. It lies between Melun and Fontainebleau, about 60 km southeast of Paris.

The inhabitants are called Samoréens.

History

In 1177 the Abbey of Saint -Germain -des- Prés bought part of the territory of the village. 1316 attacked King Philippe V in the conflict between the monks and the inhabitants. In 1520 Francis I bought the hill where he built the Château des Pressoirs du Roy. From 1592 to 1597 Henry IV took trips together with the beautiful Gabrielle d' Estrées to Pressoirs du Roy. In 1679 the Royal Treidelboot between Paris and was Valvins ( neighboring village on the banks of the Seine ) created. 1790-1796 was the nationalization of church property and the sale of all the possessions of the Abbey of Saint- Germain -des- Prés and the parish. From 1811 to 1825 the first bridge was built by Valvins, which replaced the ferry. The first teacher came in 1813 after Samoreau. In September 1870 a cyclone devastated the region and destroyed the church tower. From 1895 to 1897 was the construction of the railway, crosses the Samoreau. In 1898, Stéphane Mallarmé died in Valvins and was buried in the cemetery of Samoreau. In the same year the fire brigade was founded. In 1908 the tram Fontainebleau Valvins has been extended to the station Vulaines- Samoreau. In 1908 Maurice Ravel 's Ma Mère l' Oye composed in the " Grangette ", a house in the vicinity of the house Mallarmé, which belonged Cipa Godebski, son of the sculptor Cyprian Godebski and half-brother of Misia Natanson. In 1940, the bridge was destroyed by Valvins. On August 23, 1944 U.S. General George S. Patton crossed the Seine on a pontoon and came after Samoreau. In 1956, the city bought the tithe barn and had them put on the historical. In 1986, a restoration of the church, which was returned to its peak.

Attractions

  • The church of Saint -Pierre dates from the 12th century. The nave was probably built by the monks of the Abbey of Saint- Germain -des- Prés. In the transept there is a small panel painting depicting the Holy Family is ( Monument historique ). The church bell ( the smaller of the two that existed before the destruction of the tower by lightning in 1870 ) bears the inscription " L'an 1500 fut faicte à Samoisseau en Brie et fut nommée Marie. " ( " Made in 1500 in Samoisseau en Brie and Marie called. " ) She is one of the oldest bells in the department. The church is listed in the Inventory of Monuments historiques added since August 1949.
  • Les Pressoirs du Roy: Built by Francis I, the house was royal vineyard, brick production plant, bourgeois residence, hospital, and now children's home. Henry IV stayed there regularly and let Gabrielle d' Estrées live in the building.

  • Tithe Barn (French Grange aux Dîmes ) from the 13th century. It is the only building that ( Ferme du Bas- Samoreau ) has been preserved by the ensemble of the large farm. This includes stables, a barn, a pigsty and a dairy.
