Samson, Isles of Scilly

Samson is an uninhabited island of the Scilly Islands off the coast of Cornwall. The appearance of about 0.38 km ² isle is determined by two hills North Hill and South Hill prevail. See the two hills the Paps of Jura similar on the island of Jura in Scotland and the Paps of Dana (or Anu ) in County Kerry in Ireland.

The round mound of tumuli ( here called Barrows ) to Samson are usually surrounded by a stone surround. The rectangular chambers are made of megaliths with intermediate masonry. The ceilings are formed of large protruding plates. The inputs point in different directions, but mostly to the east. The most unusual plant on Samson consists of two chambers, which are in an irregularly shaped hill.

In 1855 the Lord Proprietor A. Smith left evacuate the last two based on the island of families to set up a deer park. However, the establishment of wildlife was not successful because all the animals were able to escape from the island. Tourists can visit the ruins of the former homes of the last inhabitants and explore the protected, unique wildlife and plant life.
