The Samsung Galaxy is the first smartphone from Samsung with Android operating system. With the Galaxy Samsung was the second manufacturer of Android smartphones and opened the competition on this platform.

Like the majority of previously published Android smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy only has a virtual keyboard, which is operated via the touch screen.

Availability

In contrast to the first two Android smartphones, the HTC Dream and the HTC Magic, the Samsung Galaxy is like the third Android smartphone from HTC, the HTC Hero, no longer only available exclusively through a mobile operator, but also in free retail.

Criticism

Due to the fact that Samsung has set with Android 1.6 software support after only eight months market presence of the Samsung Galaxy, Samsung is strong come under criticism. Samsung applied functions (hardware and software), but these are not available due to lack of updates. In various forums were mainly functions as a lack of Bluetooth data transfer, despite AMOLED incorrectly advertised color depth and lack Tetherfunktion ( which was explicitly advertised ) criticized and customers have reported that they have returned the phone back. Nevertheless, to the Samsung Galaxy a large developer community has made that offer, among others, an unofficial update to the Android version 2.3.
