Samuel Adams (governor)

Samuel Adams ( born June 5, 1805 Halifax County, Virginia; † February 27, 1850 in Saline County, Arkansas ) was an American politician and 1844 Acting Governor of the State of Arkansas.

Samuel Adams attended no special schools and acquired the necessary knowledge itself. In 1835 he moved to the Arkansas Territory and became planters. He was also active politically: In 1840 he was elected as a member of the Democratic Party in the Senate from Arkansas. During his second term in the Senate, he was its president. As Governor Archibald Yell on April 29, 1844 resigned from his post to go to the U.S. Congress, Adams had to take over its tasks and finish the unexpired term in accordance with the Constitution.

Adams officiated between 29 April and 5 November in the year 1844 as governor of Arkansas. In these six months, he continued the policies of his predecessor and promoted mainly the expansion of infrastructure and education. After the end of his brief tenure, he was Minister of Finance in 1846 from Arkansas. A post he retained until his death in 1850. Samuel Adams was married to Rebecca May, with whom he had six children.
