Samuel Amsler

Samuel Amsler ( born December 17, 1791 in Schinznach, † May 18, 1849 in Munich) was a Swiss engraver.

Life

The son of a medical officer and farmer Jakob Amsler from 1810 lessons with Johann Heinrich Lips, after which he studied in Munich. 1816 Amsler went to Rome and in 1829 he became a professor at the Art Academy in Munich. He is regarded as one of the main champions of the Nazarene Reproduction stitch. Among his pupils were Wilhelm von Kaulbach, Carl Heinrich Merz and Arnold Gonzenbach. Amsler nephew Jakob Amsler -Laffon was a noted mathematician and engineer.
