Samuel Bodman

Samuel Wright Bodman III (* November 26, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois ) is an American politician, who belonged to the administration of President George W. Bush as Secretary of Energy. He is a member of the Republican Party.

Education and professional career

His first years of life spent was born in Chicago Bodman in Tallmadge, Ohio. In 1961 he finished his studies at the Cornell University. In 1965 he received his doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After that he worked in the economy as a board member and president of many companies. Among other things, he was from 1983 to 1987 COO of Fidelity Investments, and from 1988 to 2001 CEO of Cabot Corporation.

Government activities

Since 2001, Bodman was the successor of Robert L. Mallett Deputy Minister of Trade in the government of George W. Bush; later he became deputy minister of finance. On 10 December 2004, he was appointed as the successor of Spencer Abraham as Energy Minister ( Secretary of Energy). This office he held until the end of the presidency of George W. Bush in January 2009. He then became a member of the board of directors of DuPont.
