Samuel Cooper

Samuel Cooper ( * 1609, † May 5, 1672 in London) was a British painter of miniatures.

He attended as his older brother, Alexander Cooper, the school of his uncle, John Hoskins.

His miniatures are characterized by the expressive use of color and brush in Baroque style in this small format. He worked on behalf of the Commonwealth of Oliver Cromwell, King Charles II, the circles of the monarchy restored and the court.

Cooper also painted on ivory and parchment - and also he designed coins.
