Samuel Crellius

Samuel Crell ( born March 25, 1660 in Cross Castle, † March 12, 1747 in Amsterdam; pseudonyms: Lucas Mellierus and Artemonius ) was a German sozinianischer preacher and theological writer.

Life

The son of a Socinian preacher studied at the theological seminary of the Remonstrants in Amsterdam. After that he worked as a preacher in small Socinian congregations in the Mark Brandenburg, Silesia and longest in Königswalde near Frankfurt on the Oder. He traveled several times to the Netherlands and to England in 1727 he moved to Amsterdam and was a theological writer. Crell is considered an important writer of the German Socinian Catechism and as a representative of Socinianism.
