Samuel Hinga Norman

Samuel Hinga Norman (born 1 January 1940 in Mongeri Bo District in Sierra Leone; † February 22, 2007 in Dakar, Senegal) was the Mende tribe leader and leader of the Kamajors, the Civil Defence Force during the civil war in Sierra Leone.

He supported with its more than 20,000 -strong troops, the civilian government of President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah. They went with the utmost brutality, recruited child soldiers and financed by blood diamonds. On 7 March 2003 Norman was indicted by the Special Court for Sierra Leone for crimes against humanity and war crimes. He died before the opening of the proceedings.
