Samuel Mendelsohn

Samuel Mendelsohn ( born March 31, 1850 in Schillelen, Kovno Governorate, † September 30, 1922 in Wilmington, North Carolina) was an American rabbi and Jewish scholar of Lithuanian origin.

Mendelsohn received his education at the Rabbinical College in Vilnius, at the rabbi school in Berlin and at Maimonides College in Philadelphia. From 1873 to 1876 he was rabbi in Norfolk ( Virginia), followed by the summer of 1922 in Wilmington (North Carolina). He was a member of the Jewish Encyclopedia.

In 1879 he married Esther Jastrow, niece of the Jewish scholar Marcus Jastrow. Their son was Charles Jastrow Mendelsohn.
