Samuel Rinnah Van Sant

Samuel Van Sant Rinnah ( born May 11, 1844 in Iceland rock, rock Iceland County, Illinois, † October 3, 1936 in Attica, Indiana ) was an American politician and 1901-1905 Governor of the State of Minnesota.

Early years

Samuel Van Sant attended the public schools of his home. He then studied for two years at Knox College before joining his father's company, were built in the steamer. During the Civil War he was a corporal in a unit of Illinois.

Political career

Van Sant was a member of the Republican Party. From 1893 to 1895 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from Minnesota. In 1895 he became president of that body. On November 6, 1900, he was elected governor of his state. Van Sant took office on January 7, 1901. During his tenure, a tax reform was implemented and launched a Control to life. In 1904, Van Sant applied not to seek re-election. Therefore, he resigned from his post on January 4, 1905.

After the end of his governorship, Van Sant retreated from politics. He was a member of the Veterans Association of the Grand Army of the Republic, as their leader, he served 1909-1910. Governor Van Sant died on 3 October 1936., With his wife Ruth Hall he had three children.
