Samuel S. Hinds

Samuel Southey Hinds ( born April 4, 1875 in Brooklyn, New York, † October 13, 1948 in Pasadena, California ) was an American actor.

Life

Samuel Hinds was married to Dorothy Cruickshank, with whom he had two daughters. A graduate of Harvard University, worked for many years as a lawyer, by the way he played in his free time at the theater. But several directors were so impressed with Hinds drama performances that they gave the actor roles in their films. First Hinds declined but from most roles and occurred only sparodisch in movies. Beginning of the 1930s gave Hinds the practice of law entirely and turned from that time about 20 films per year in Hollywood. The on his arrival in Hollywood nearly 60 -year-old Hinds quickly established himself as a character actor of mostly good-natured respect figures. In several films, he also played people from his old field of activity, such as lawyers or judges. Even doctors, mayors, generals or police officers were more mach embodied by Hinds. He had his still famous appearances on the side of James Stewart, as in the films Life Artist, The Big Bluff and in Is not life beautiful?. In the latter he played Christmas classic Stewart's self-sacrificing father, who died soon after the beginning of the film.

Until his death, Samuel Hinds starred in over 210 films, the vast majority of his appearances were mentioned in the credits. He died at the age of 73 from pneumonia.
