Samuel Smiles

Samuel Smiles (pronounced smeils ) ( born December 23, 1812 in Haddington, Scotland, † April 16, 1904 ) was a Scottish moral writer.

Life

He was originally physician, but was then the practice to take over the editorship of the Leeds Times. From 1845 to 1860 he was secretary to various railways. Since then, he lived as a privateer in London. Some of his writings gained wide spread.
