Samuel T. Busey

Samuel Thompson Busey ( born November 16, 1835 in Greencastle, Indiana; † August 12, 1909 in Urbana, Illinois ) was an American politician. Between 1891 and 1893 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Even in his childhood moved with his parents to Samuel Busey Urbana, Illinois, where he attended the public schools. He then studied law. In the years 1859 and 1860 he attended a trade school. During the Civil War Busey served 1861-1865 in different units in the army of the Union. He rose to 1865 up to brevet brigadier general. Between 1867 and 1888 he worked in the banking industry. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. From 1880 to 1889 he was not only in banking activities also mayor of Urbana.

In the congressional elections of 1890, Busey was in the 15th electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Joseph Gurney Cannon on March 4, 1891. Since he has not been confirmed in 1892, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1893. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Samuel Busey again worked in the banking industry. He died on August 12, 1909 in Urbana, where he was also buried.
