San Antonio La Paz is a 3,000 inhabitants counting place and a municipality in the department of El Progreso in Guatemala. It is located about 40 km northeast of Guatemala City and 41 km south-west of Guastatoya at 1240 m altitude. A few kilometers northwest of the town runs the important Atlantic Highway CA 9 that connects Guatemala City and Puerto Barrios. From there, there are at km 30 ( Agua Caliente ) and 36.5 secondary routes to San Antonio.

The 209 km ² large municipality extends in the southwestern highlands of El Progreso. It has a total of about 18,000 inhabitants, of which the majority live in rural settlements and villages, including El Soyate, Hato, Las Navajas, Los Encinos, Jocotales, El Chorro, Los Planes, Los Amates, Las Morita, El Naranjo, Llano Largo, Santo Domingo Los Ocotes, Agua Caliente, Estación Agua Caliente, El Suquinay, Los Astales, Prados de Canaan, Cucajol, Dolores, El Chile, El Carrizo and Carrizo Santa Cruz.

In the east and north of the Río Platanos separates the municipality of the neighboring municipality of Sanarate, in the west of Río Las Cañas from Departamento Guatemala. Where the bridges of the Atlantic Highway CA 9 and alongside running railway line the Río Las Cañas and thus the border between the departments Guatemala and El Progeso cross, the charity IRTRA maintains on the east bank of the river, on the territory of the Municipalities of San Antonio La Paz, at Agua Caliente, the amusement park and the thermal bath " Agua Caliente ".

The municipality of San Antonio La Paz was built in the 19th century from the Finca El Encinal and belonged from 1835 to 1908 and from 1920 to 1934 for the department of Guatemala.
