San Carlos ( Western Apache: Sengaa ) is a census -designated place in Gila County in the U.S. state of Arizona. San Carlos has 3716 inhabitants ² on an area of 22.9 km. The village lies at 801 m above sea level at San Carlos Lake in the San Carlos Apache Reservation in the south of the county. 58.8 % of people live below the poverty line. Thus San Carlos is one of the poorest Indian settlements in the United States. San Carlos is affected by U.S. Highway 70.
