San Carlos de Rio Negro is a village in Venezuela, administrative center of the municipality of Río Negro. The population is about 1200 people.
History
The village was founded in 1759 as part of the expedition of José Solano y Bote. Alexander von Humboldt visited San Carlos in 1800 and undertook there studies on geology and biology.
Geography
San Carlos is located on the banks of the Río Negro, not far from the border with Colombia and Brazil.
