San Carlos Department, Salta

The Department of San Carlos is located in the south of the province of Salta in northwestern Argentina and is one of 23 administrative units in the province.

It is bordered on the north by the departments Cachi and Chicoana, on the east by the department of La Viña, to the south by the department of Cafayate and the province of Catamarca and to the west by the department of Molinos.

The capital of the department of the same name is San Carlos.

Population

According to INDEC estimates of the number of residents increased from 7,208 (2001) to 7,559 ( 2005).
