San Cassiano
San Cassiano is a Southeast Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2084 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Lecce in Puglia. The municipality is situated approximately 36 km south-southeast of Lecce in southern Salento. San Cassiano Unione dei Comuni belongs to delle Terre di Mezzo.
History
When the Saracens in 1033, the city Muro Leccese destroyed, the settlement was San Cassiano. In the place of refuge, however, was a sacred site in the 9th and 10th centuries.
The municipality was established in 1975 after she was long part of today's neighboring communities Botrugno and Nociglia.
Traffic
Through the community, the Strada Statale 275 di Santa Maria di Leuca leads from Maglie after Castrignano del Capo.
