San Diego (Zacapa)

San Diego is a city and a municipality in the department of Zacapa in Guatemala. The village is located about 160 km east-northeast of Guatemala City and about 65 km southwest of the city of Zacapa. The town is located south of the Atlantic Highway CA 9 in the valley of the Río San Diego to 640 m altitude. From the CA 9 He can be reached via a paved road to the west of Cabañas (still in El Progreso ) branches off to the south.

The 112- km ² large municipality extends in the mountains in the far southwest Zacapas. It has a total of about 8,000 inhabitants, of whom the majority are Ladinos. The municipality is next to the main town of San Diego from the nine " rural communities " ( Aldeas ) El Porvenir, Venecia, Santa Elena, El Terrero, Pampur, La Hierba Buena, La Ensenada, San Antonio and Las Delicias.

In the north of San Diego is adjacent to the municipality of Cabañas, to the east by the department of Chiquimula and to the south and west by the department of Jalapa.
