San Donato Val di Comino

San Donato Val di Comino is a municipality in the province of Frosinone in the Italian region Latium, located about 2107 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located 132 km east of Rome and 50 km east of Frosinone.

Geography

San Donato Val di Comino is situated at the foot of Monte Pezzullo in the Monti della Meta. A large part of its territory belongs to the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise. San Donato Val di Comino is a member of the Comunità Montana Valle di Comino.

San Donato was included in the list of the most beautiful villages in Italy and carries the Orange Flag a seal of quality in the field of tourism and the environment of the TCI.

San Donato is located on State Road 509 Forca d' Acero di, which runs from Cassino to the Abruzzi.

The nearby towns are Alvito, Gallinaro, Opi (AQ ), Pescasseroli (AQ ) and Settefrati

History

A settlement of the Samnites in 293 BC was destroyed by the Romans and built as a Roman estate again. Of these residues located in the district of San Fedele.

778 AD was a church that Aecclesiam Sancti Donati, first mentioned. The Counts of Aquino took the place in their property and built the Castrum Sancti Donati. He remained until 1806 when Aquino. In 1861 he came to the Kingdom of Italy.

1984 an earthquake caused severe damage.
