San Giuseppe Jato

San Giuseppe Jato is a city in the province of Palermo in the Italian region Sicily, with 8470 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

San Giuseppe Jato is located 32 km southwest of Palermo. The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture. Districts ( frazioni ) are Balistreri, Mortilli and development areas Traversa II, III Traversa. The community is a member of the following associations and organizations: Regione Agraria n 5 - Colline internal - Colline di Monreale; Associazione Nazionale Citta del Vino; Patto Territorial Alto Belice Corleonese. The connection to Palermo and Sciacca is guaranteed by the SS 624.

The neighboring municipalities are Monreale and San Cipirello.

History

The present town was founded in 1779. After the landslide of 1838 San Cipirello south was created as alternative accommodation for the residents of the destroyed districts.
