San Luis Obispo County is a county located in the U.S. state of California. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is in San Luis Obispo.

Geography

The county has a total area of ​​9364 km ² and is located on the Pacific coast between Los Angeles and San Francisco. It is bordered clockwise to the counties: Kern County, Kings County, Santa Barbara County and Monterey County.

History

Father Junipero Serra founded the Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa on 1 September 1772. This mission is still a vibrant part of the downtown area in San Luis Obispo.

Economy

The San Luis Obispo County is the third largest wine producing area in California. Only the Sonoma County and the Napa County produce more.
