San Marino in the Eurovision Song Contest

This article deals with the history of San Marino as participants in the Euro Vision Song Contest (ESC).

San Marino 2008 in Belgrade took part for the first time at the Euro Vision Song Contest (ESC). Until then, San Marino one of the few countries in the EBU, who had not yet participated in the ESC. After 2008 Azerbaijan made its debut, remained only Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon ( failed attempt in 2005 ), Libya, Tunisia and the Vatican State as a non- participant in the Euro Vision Song Contest.

Regularity of participation and success in competition

For the ESC 2008 in Belgrade San Marino participated for the first time at the ESC and was eliminated in the first semifinal finished last with only five points. The country had received three points from Greece and two points of Andorra. Thereafter, the country did not participate because of the misconduct and financial difficulties in 2009 and 2010. With the return of the Italian channel RAI, the owning a significant share of San Marino television SMRTV, even the small republic in northern Italy came back to the ESC. Was it in 2011 and 2012 is still well failed in 16th place and 14th place at the final hurdle, so we reached 2013 11th place in the semifinals and failed for a place at the finals. With the participations in 2012, 2013 and 2014 Valentina is one of the four artists in the history of the competition, who have their country three times in a row represented. National Qualifications

San Marino elected its candidate for the ESC 2008 intern He was selected in a national qualifying round among a total of 50 applicants by a seven- member expert jury of the competition transmitted Sammarinese television station San Marino RTV had compiled. 2008 and 2013, was sung in Italian, the contributions of 2011 and 2012 were entirely in English. For 2014, again sung entirely in English.
