San Nazzaro, Switzerland

San Nazzaro was, until April 24, 2010 a municipality on Lake Maggiore in the circle Gambarogno, in the district of Locarno in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland.

Neighboring communities were Gerra (Gambarogno ) Indemini and Ascona.

The municipality was created in 1930 from the merger of the municipalities Vairano and Casenzano.

Fusion community

On 25 November 2007, the merger of the nine communities on the south shore of Lake Maggiore to the municipality Gambarogno was approved by the voters of eight municipalities: Caviano, contone, Gerra (Gambarogno ) Indemini, Magadino, Ascona, Sant'Abbondio and Vira ( Gambarogno). Only San Nazzaro was a majority against. Against the parliamentary vote, nevertheless be carried out as planned, the merger has been appealed to the Federal Court. Following the rejection of the complaint, the merger came into force on April 25, 2010.
