San Pedro de la Paz
San Pedro de la Paz is a city in central Chile in the Región del Bío -Bío. It has 81 449 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2005).
Geography
San Pedro de la Paz is part of the agglomeration Gran Concepción, located a few kilometers south of Concepción directly on the Pacific Ocean.

History
1603 the place Fuerte de San Pedro de la Paz was founded by Governor Alonso de Ribera. The site served as an outpost against attacks by the Mapuche. 1888 Puente ferroviario and 1942, the Puente Viejo across the river Bio-Bio was created. Along with these bridges, the population increased very strongly in the last 30 years by a factor of 20

Tourism
Around 22 km of the river Bio-Bio with the lagoons Laguna Grande of San Pedro and Laguna Chica of San Pedro offer beautiful natural landscape for hiking.
Personalities
Luis Alberto Acevedo (1885-1913) was a Chilean aviation pioneer, who with his Bleriot monoplane made long flights in Chile 1912-1913. On March 22, 1913, he flew the route Concepción - Talca.
