Principle and Technology

San Shou is a formless melee system, which is a synthesis of traditional Chinese martial arts. During the Republican era ( 1912-49 ), San Shou was developed as a modern combat system in the Whampoa Military Academy. After the founding of the People 's Republic of China selected Chinese and other Asian and Western martial arts styles were combined with each other and added into the 50s of the 20th century by the People's Liberation Army. The sporty San Shou (San da) was later developed by some wushu teachers in addition to the modern Taolu forms as a competitive form.

The focus of the training is to improve the fighting skills and knowledge that are necessary for the realistic combat, while the perfecting of forms no importance is attached to.
