Sanath Jayasuriya

Sanath Teran Jayasuriya (* June 30, 1969 in Matara, Ceylon ) is a former cricketer and politician from Sri Lanka. In 1997 he was elected one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year.

Career

Sanath Jayasuriya was the beginning of his career as a bowler with decent skills as a batsman. Throughout his career, he walked rapidly becoming the all-rounder, was particularly impressed by his qualities as a batsman. He played a total of 110 tests for Sri Lanka, where he scored 6973 runs ( 40.07 runs per wicket ) and 98 wickets. His test debut Sanath Jayasuriya in February 1991 against New Zealand. After the test against England in December 2007, Jayasuriya ended his Test career. He also denied between December 1989 and June 2011 a total of 445 one-day international cricket matches ( ODIs ) for Sri Lanka. Especially in ODIs, he was able to convince with his skills as an all rounder. In total, he achieved during his career, 323 wickets and 13,430 runs in ODIs, where he scored his ten thousandth run in an ODI in 2005. So far, only Sachin Tendulkar has scored more runs in ODIs.

Sanath Jayasuriya took for the team of Sri Lanka Cricket at five World Championships ( 1992,1996,1999, 2003 and 2007 ) in part. At the Cricket World Cup 1996, which he won with his team, Jayasuriya was voted the best player of the tournament. In total he has made in his 38 matches in Cricket World Cup 1165 runs. Only Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting and Brian Lara have scored more runs in the World Championships.
