Sancho I of Portugal
Sancho I called the colonizers (Dom Sancho I or o Povoador ) ( born November 11, 1154 Coimbra, † March 26, 1211 ibid ) was the second king of Portugal from the house of Burgundy.
Life
Sancho I was born to King Alfonso I and born of Queen Matilda. After the death of his father in 1185 he ascended the throne himself. He brought the monks into their country, which should settle the reconquered from the Moors, and conquered Silves in 1189, the capital of the Moors. However, most of these conquests were lost again in the next year. About disputes about the validity of the marriage of his daughter Theresa King Alfonso IX. of León, as well as Lehnsrechte, began a confrontation with the Catholic Church, which in 1195 imposed an interdict on Portugal. The confrontation between the monarchy and the church should take almost two hundred years, and is a sort of Portuguese version of the Investiture Controversy dar.
