Sand River Convention

The Sand River Convention ( afrikaans Sandri Four Konvensie; German as " Sand River Agreement" ) was a treaty, which was concluded in 1852 between Britain and the Boers in South Africa today. It was named after the South African river sand.

History

In the area of present-day South Africa were in the middle of the 19th century - among other nations - the British and the Boers against. The Cape Colony and Natal in the south to the east were British territory, while in the north there were several independent Boer republics, the Transvaal in particular.

The agreement was signed on January 17, 1852 in the country of the Boer PA Venter north of the sand.
