Sandbagger sloop

SandBagger denotes a boat type that was common in the early 19th century at the oyster fishermen in the New York region. The boats had rigging of the sloop - type. To be able to land the oyster catches quickly, this type of boat was heavily übertakelt. To compensate for the excessive rigging sandbags ( "sand bags" ) were used as trim weights - hence the name sand dredging. In the late 19th century developed from the boat race, fishing and sailing these boats, which are known to this day in boating.
