Sandgate, Kent

Sandgate is a village in the county of Kent, England. The village has about 3800 inhabitants and belongs administratively to Folkestone. He is right on the English Channel coast.

Because of the strategic location right on the canal and close to France, various defenses were built in Sandgate. Among other six Martello towers and the Sandgate Castle.

History

From 1901 to 1909 lived H. G. Wells, as he came to his worldwide fame, in Sandgate. 1922, the British actress Hattie Jacques was born in Sandgate. Since 1934 Sandgate is part of Folkestone.
