Sandia Mountains

The Sandia Mountains are located east of the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The highest peak of this mountain range is the Sandia Crest with 3255 m height. The more important touristy mountain is the Sandia Peak ( 2957 m). From the Sandia Peak starting out the longest cableway in the world, the Sandia Peak Tramway, in the plain on which Albuquerque is located. There is a restaurant and many picnic areas at the summit station of the train. On the other side of the mountain leads another cable car, which is, however, significantly shorter, down the mountain.

The Sandia Mountains are suitable for many recreational activities, including mountain- biking, hiking and in winter for ski driving. The name comes from the Spanish and means watermelon. Probably gave the first Spanish explorers to the mountains this name due to the Rotschimmers of the mountains at sunset.
