Sandy Allen

Sandra Elaine Allen ( born June 18, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois; † August 13, 2008 in Shelbyville, Indiana) was an American record holder size that stood with their 2.32 m since 1976 in the Guinness Book of World Records. The deceased in November 2012 Chinese Yao Defen presented with a 2.36 m this record.

Life

Sandra Elaine Allen's unusual size was a result of a tumor in her pituitary gland, through which uncontrolled growth hormones were released. Growth until the age of 22 years could be stopped by surgical intervention, without which it would grow.

Allen wrote an autobiographical book about her life ( Cast A Giant Shadow) and appeared in several films, including the Oscar-winning Fellini's Casanova. The band Split Enz from New Zealand wrote a song about it, which was released on the album Time and Tide by 1982.

Because of their enormous size she was last confined to a wheelchair because her body was no longer held the burden on standing. Allen had retired several years ago from the public in a nursing home, where she died at the age of 53 years.
